Took my cold showers to the next level
This thing took my cold showers to the next level. I had stalled with my ability to get a rush from the temperature of my “cold” tap water in southern California, even in the “winter”. The water no longer felt cold because I’d gotten used to it. This device solved my problem. I can now get 3-5 minutes of amazingly ice cold showers. Using very large ice cubes makes these durations possible. I use six large cubes to line the bottom of the colander, and I fill the gaps between the cubes with regular size cubes. There’s numerous options to buy large-cube ice trays from Amazon. Then I put a huge ~775 ml cube on top, which I make in a tupperware. I put more large cubes around that and again fill in the gaps with regular size cubes.As you can see from my pictures, my shower is less than ideal. The glass door is short, and the tile doesn’t go far up the wall. It might seem like there’s then no way to attach the hooks to the wall because 1) you wouldn’t want to use adhesive on paint—it’ll just fall and tear off the paint while it does—and 2) the included straps wouldn’t even be long enough to reach the side of the wall further from the shower. However, one can solve this problem in one of two ways. 1) The people at Hover Recover pointed out to me that I could just use a single strap and loop it around the shower head. You can see this setup in one of my pictures. It worked great. There wasn’t much wrong with this setup. I just wanted to see if attaching the colander to the wall would be better. I like to shake the colander as the ice melts to resettle it and keep the shower water in contact with as much ice as possible. Sometimes this can leave the colander off-level, and I thought maybe if I attached it to the wall it would take less effort to keep it level. So, 2) attach the hooks to the wall using screws, washers, and drywall anchors. Also, I bought another set of lashing straps from Amazon to extend the length of the strap going to the far wall. This too works great. The colander is slightly easier to keep level this way.IMPORTANT: when attaching the hooks to walls that are not equidistant from the shower head, it’s not the height of the hooks that need to be equal but the angle of the straps as they lead to the hooks. I recommend setting the first hook as high as possible so you have adjustability of the colander’s height when you’re eventually done; then set the second hook in the location that keeps the colander level (i.e. that keeps the angle of the two straps equal). As long as you set the hooks high enough, you can then increase the straps’ tension to raise the colander up as close as possible to the shower head.

What an interesting design they went with here. I have a tub that I use for ice baths and they are such a pain to keep up with. I have to keep a special container in my deep freezer to make large blocks of ice for it which takes a while to freeze up. With this, I simply dump ice from my ice maker on my fridge and I’m all set! Still working on building up my tolerance to cold showers but I let this thing run on my shoulder for a bit and its really helped.

Slick Low-Tech Alternative To Ice Bath
This thing is a very slick low-tech alternative to the traditional ice bath. It’s portable and great for travel. Given that many hotel rooms now have only showers, this is a must-have alternative for traveling athletes who like ice baths. I took 1 star off, as I’m not sure how well it will actually hold up over time, with extended use. If it lasts, I’d give it 5 stars!
